CMMN SWDN presents spring/summer 2019 in Paris. Designed by Saif and Emma Bakir, the duo face one of fashion’s biggest social concerns with this collection: overproduction. Recycling staple pieces from previous CMMN SWDN collections, the repurposed and redesigned elements give the spring collection new life and new meaning. Knitwear is reassembled by hand as an appliqué on mesh, technical Moto jackets are cropped and reimagined on printed mesh.
It was a beautiful and sublime collection, one that felt masterly technical, luxurious, and relaxed. The collection also introduced a collaboration with Helen Kirkum, the shoe designer known for her collage-like construction of recycled sneakers. Like the collection, Kirkum dissected and reconstructed the shoes from CMMN SWDN AW18 collection for the spring.
Bales of discarded clothes make up the backdrop and serve as evidence of today’s overproduction.
