On May 20, Louis Vuitton will present its Cruise 2027 collection at The Frick Collection in New York, inaugurating a three-year sponsorship between the House and the institution. The initiative brings together fashion and fine arts within a partnership defined by cultural stewardship and expanded public access.
The Cruise 2027 collection designed by Nicolas Ghesquière will be shown within one of Manhattan’s last great Gilded Age residences, where, for the first time, a suite of the Frick’s historic first-floor galleries will be activated for a fashion show. The choice of setting is deliberate: since opening to the public in 1935, The Frick Collection has offered an intimate encounter with European painting, sculpture, and decorative arts from the Renaissance through the nineteenth century, preserved within the domestic context of its founder, Henry Clay Frick. Long shaped by an engagement with travel, architecture, and cultural memory, Louis Vuitton’s Cruise collections find a natural resonance here, while the museum’s recent reopening, following a major renovation led by Selldorf Architects, places the collaboration within a renewed commitment to preservation and accessibility.
"Presenting the Cruise collection at The Frick Collection offers a unique dialogue between contemporary creation and such a remarkable artistic setting, where, surrounded by masterpieces spanning from the Renaissance onward, we enter into conversation with a place where art, history, and beauty have long been preserved and celebrated,” Ghesquière remarked. “It also marks the beginning of a meaningful relationship with an institution devoted to excellence and cultural heritage, further affirming Louis Vuitton’s commitment to engaging with art spaces that inspire and elevate creative expression.”
Beginning in June 2026, Louis Vuitton will also support First Fridays, a program offering free monthly evening access to the museum through May 2027, extending a shared commitment to broadening public engagement with works historically associated with connoisseurship and study. The House will also assume a leading role in the Frick’s exhibition program, supporting Siena: The Art of Bronze, opening in October 2026, a spring 2027 exhibition devoted to the French enameller Susanne de Court, and a subsequent, as yet unannounced exhibition of nineteenth century painting scheduled for late 2027 to early 2028.
The collaboration also establishes a two-year curatorial research position, held by Yifu Liu, centered on the study of cultural exchange between Europe and China, with particular attention to artistic practices spanning the 15th through the 18th centuries. Engaging directly with the Frick’s holdings, its collections of Asian porcelain and European courtly arts, the role brings focused scholarly attention to areas of the collection that warrant greater visibility.
While Louis Vuitton’s global presentations at sites such as the Louvre and the Salk Institute have long aligned the House with places of architectural and cultural distinction, its partnership with The Frick Collection introduces a more sustained, institutional dimension, positioning the Cruise 2027 show as the opening gesture in an ongoing dialogue between contemporary design and its enduring relationship to art history.
