For Cruise, Gucci collaborates with celebrated photographer Mick Rock on a journey to Rome, the hometown of creative director, Alessandro Michele. The cast includes eccentric Italian movie stars, writers, musicians, producers, and TV personalities. The campaign celebrates the bizarre and unexpected, something Mick Rock is no stranger to having shot stars like Syd Barrett, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, David Bowie, and the Sex Pistols.
Rock’s experience around flamboyant, trend-setting rock stars provided a unique take on these unconventional characters.
‘What helped a lot is the fact that I got constant stimulation from the clothes.’ he says. ‘Because they’re so fabulous, and they’re colourful. And then of course there’s the personality of Alessandro, who’s an open, giving force!’
