Ferragamo Spring/Summer 2027: Reimagining 1940s Utilitywear

2 October 2026

Ferragamo put its own stamp on Milan Fashion Week with its Spring/Summer 2027 collection, working mostly in deep browns and earthy tones with the occasional pop of color. Inspired by Lee Miller’s exhibition featuring photographs of her time in Egypt, Maximilian Davis centered the collection around safari jackets and desert hues. The show opened with a classic 1940s conservative silhouette: a long-sleeved double-breasted dress with a cinched waist and pronounced shoulders in a muted brown shade.

As the show progressed, each look became more daring than the last. Look eighteen featured a deep-cut sheer top tucked into sheer balloon trousers, while the latex bodycon numbers emerged from look twenty-one onwards, with hints of outlines beneath.

Reminiscent of 1940s wartime dress and utilitywear, the classic trench was translated for a contemporary audience in the form of a baby-blue latex coat. An unconventional fabric far removed from the practicality of utility clothing, latex dominated the look through its impressive tailoring and considered fit. The lighter silks and linens woven throughout the rest of the collection injected an air of sophistication and luxury. High-waisted cinches, shoulder draping and pencil skirts – all synonymous with the wartime era – became symbols of a changing womanhood. Davis drew on the period not simply for its aesthetic, but for the sense of resolve reflected in its clothing. Reworked in latex, silk and linen, these disciplined silhouettes felt assured rather than restrictive, presenting a femininity that was confident and self-defined.

Oversized Hug bags were reimagined as clutches in classic black and burgundy, whilst the elegant, sleek Cara bag, which debuted in the Fall/Winter 2026 collection, returned in its signature accordion silhouette and Gancini closure in rich suede and snakeskin versions.

Held as clutches on the runway, the bags became an extension of the collection’s sense of confidence and control, completing Davis’s assured reworking of the feminine codes of the 1940s.
