In The Rehearsal, Nina Hoss and Leon Dame turn a stripped-back reading into a compact theater of transformation. A bare room, a script, two performers. The tension is palpable yet the performance is full of resolution. A line is offered, returned, bent into something else. A glance changes the temperature. A pause is felt. In the spotlight are Nina Hoss, the celebrated German stage and screen actor whose work is defined by exacting restraint, and Berlin-born model Leon Dame, famous for turning the runway walk into a theater. Here, Hoss plays with subtle expressions while Dame makes posture feel like punctuation. Together they read a story of a shapeshifter, slipping between characters with little more than voice, gesture and timing.
Only then do the sunglasses become part of the performance. Each change of frame cues a different self: the perfectly round MR007 brings graphic clarity; the slim MR008 shield sharpens the silhouette into something faster and stranger. Made with Rimowa’s signature aluminum and shaped by Mykita’s designs, their eyewear does not interrupt the scene so much as complete it. The Rehearsal becomes an elegant first draft of a performance—precise, curious and alive to the possibility that becoming someone else can begin with a single gesture.
